A Little Bit About Me!
My name can be spelled so many ways, you wouldn't believe it. Whether you prefer Hanne, Hannah, Hana, Hanna, or something else, I understand it all. You can even call me Orion, like the name of this site. I'm in my mid-late 20's, I live in the United States, I have all kinds of weird and normal interests, and I hope you enjoy reading about them!
I grew up in the late 90's and early 00's, and I was fascinated by the cinder block we called a PC. I spent most of my time outside digging, climbing, and getting lost in ravines, but when I had "computer time", I would always accept. My mother didn't like video game consoles, so I didn't have a console until the Wii came out, but the computer was the loophole. I grew up playing Zoo Tycoon, Age of Mythology, Reader Rabbit, and any flash game I could find. When I was about 10, my friend introduced me to Neopets, which was extremely popular and I absolutely adored it. Around that time it boasted roughly 25 MILLION users, so we were never low on things to do and people to meet.
It was around that time that I learned what HTML was. I felt like such a little badass using hex values to change font colors, or copy/pasting code for a cool new cursor for my page! My page was fully customized with all my favorite classic rock bands, anime gifs, Linkin Park lyrics, everything a preteen could want. All that code is outdated now and my page (which I'm now locked out of because Verizon killed their email service) looks like a mess of brackets and parenthesis.
I spent a lot of time in forums where people talked about Warrior Cats, and I bounced between a few different sites besides Neopets, like Subeta and Marapets, and played a lot of MMOs as well. From there I was introduced to DeviantArt (who wasn't?) and when that started to die my friend showed me Tumblr, which I have been using for about 10 years now. That brings us roughly up to the present!
I've enjoyed hopping around websites and going through phases of interests and learning new things and meeting new people. Unfortunately, I really hate where the internet is right now (I think a lot of people do). I hate being made to feel bad about myself by people with rich parents. I hate knowing that nothing is private or just for my friends. I hate the cesspool of ads! I heard about NeoCities and was instantly interested, though it took me a while to feel energized enough to start doing HTML again. I'm not going to delete any social media accounts (yet), but I want to have a place where I can post without constantly watching an engagement counter. Growing up was tough, and the internet wasn't always my friend and I have plenty of negative memories around it, but I miss the slow pace in some ways, and I think everyone (not just me!) would benefit greatly from shrinking their field of view in terms of social media. Don't ignore important current events, but don't feel like you need to see every post on your feed or be involved in every trend every week. Let's all relax! :)
